Abortion in Alabama

 The State of Alabama is currently facing a number of legal issues that have been the subject of much debate and discussion. One of the most pressing issues is the ongoing battle over abortion rights.

In 2019, the Alabama legislature passed a law that effectively bans all abortions in the state, with the exception of cases where the mother's life is in danger. This law has been met with strong opposition from pro-choice groups, who argue that it is a violation of women's constitutional rights.

Depending on your viewpoint regarding abortions, this law has an affect on many. I think that it is very important to align your feeling with your moral compass.

Case law and statute are put in place significantly because to protect the common good. However, the common good does not mean everyone is going to be happy about the decision. 

So how does one continue to live life if their beliefs are opposed to laws that have been passed? A wise politician made a great statement to me years ago:  If you give a politician too much power, you are giving a position too much power. 

No matter your political viewpoint, it is important to understand it isn’t the person that holds the power. It’s the position. And if the person changes, the power remains with the position. 

So how do you cope with your differences? As a lawyer, I have learned that some laws do not really lean in anyone’s favor. But, it is important to know the law and apply it to the facts to a client’s individual facts. 

More importantly, I have learned to find the law that is most applicable to the situation that’s best for my client. This is very much so different than bending laws or ignoring them. 

All in all, the State of Alabama has passed a law against abortions. However, there are some exceptions to this law. Please be mindful to research it and know how it might affect you.
