How to stay focused with information overload

There are three (3) habits that I do to make sure that I stay focused in a society with information overload:  (1) take recommendations from friends, family, mentors, and people who I want to be like; (2) when listening to or digesting information, (whether it’s podcasts, YouTube videos, or books) make sure to those books and podcasts are aligned with my overall objective. [There might be a lot of good books and podcasts, but they might not be in line with overall objective.]; (3) find different information outlets that provide a variety of information in short bits. One of the reasons why I love Twitter is because Twitter allows you to follow users. And each one person can only post a certain amount of information. It is like people posting little golden nuggets. Unlike Facebook and other social media platforms, Facebook allows users to write long posts. Depending on who you are following, the posts could be nothing of substance.

Learning how to remain focus with so much information in the world is important because, you hear people say, “back in the old days, things where easier because you didn’t have so many options.” Now, I understand the thought behind the older generation. For example, if you want a hamburger, you option of McDonald’s, Checker’s, Burger King, Rally’s, etc. You have many different options.
What differentiates a person from going to Burger King or McDonald’s? It is simple. If you want a flame broiled burger, you go to Burger King. You want something cheap and consistent; you go to McDonald’s. It is important to figure out life goals and pare down information intake based on those goals.

Do not try to read every book, blog posts, or social media posts. Learn to take information, wisdom, and advice from certain people (whether you know them personally or not). Some individuals take their blog post, books, and social media content more seriously than others.
Overall, this post is not exhaustive of all the methods one can employ to remain focused. However, three thoughts were given to narrow your focus to become more efficient in a world of information-overload.

KEY TAKE AWAYS:

(1) take content recommendation from trusted sources; (2) ensure digested content aligns with your overarching goal; (3) find important outlet that provides snippets of information from various sources with citations.
