The Power of Habits

The Power of Habits is not only becoming successful but is also about becoming very engaged in your “why” and your purpose of living. Often times we see too many people who are wanting to push themselves to the next level but they don't have any type of engagement. They have no type of measurement. They have no type of measuring stick to show “hey I am actually doing what it is that I really want to do.”

A lot of times people ask “you have four degrees, how do you do it?” Well, I broke it all in small steps. And I rewarded myself every time I achieved those small steps. It seems very elementary but in honesty it is very basic. It is not some rocket science. It isn’t that I’m smarter than most other people. Even though People look at what I’ve accomplished and say “amazing!” But here is the thing I would tell anybody and everybody, you can accomplish  anything that you put your mind to accomplish. Your why has to be very strong.

Now more than ever is a great time to find your purpose. But it is important to continue to do research and find out what it took to get people who are in similar situations where you trying to go. Then you are to employ those habits. Make those steps into habits. If you look at most successful people (I talk about this often); they read a lot. And some people say that's a habit. Some people says habits were developed on their own accord.

At the end of the day, I think that wether you were reared in a family where reading was a requirement, you can develop it into a habit. If you are reading this blog, listening  to me on podcast, or a general follower of me; I preach habits all of the time. Because I grew up in an environment were reading wasn't as important, I focus on it now. Reading wasn't something that was required or something that was even pushed upon me and my siblings. I didn't find reading until I started college.

I started noticing that there is a lot of other kids who parents were very successful. But when you met them, it wasn't what you see on typical television. E.g., where the rich were mean and ugly and didn't  want to help the less fortunate; or the poor was people who were the only ones who were pure of heart. It was really the lack of knowledge and wisdom for people’s position in life. I always encourage anybody who wants to start reading to start with the Bible.
And, I know it seems like I’m getting off topic, but essentially, what I mean about habits is if you want to change your life find out where you want to be. Find out what it took to get people who are in the similar situation where you want to be and then take those steps. And make them into everyday practical small steps. And then that's your measuring tool, that's your stick. That's the way that you determine how, if you are aligning your goals, if you succeed, if you fail.

What you going find out, is that there is not some magician with a wand determining who is going to be successful. E.g., karate kid with a an ole wise sage.

You will have different coaches. You will have different mentors in your life that's going to tell you “this is what you need to do in order to achieve this one aspect in your life.” But one thing that you are going to start realizing is that success is not only just about money, is not only about education, is not only about you owning a business. Its about family, its about love, what are you doing in your church? What are you doing in your community? In your neighborhood? Are you on the neighborhood watch? What are you doing to really further your dream and health that collectively fuel not collective fuel the community around you.
