Been in Accident, What to do Next?
According to The Wandering RV, there are over 6 million car crashes a year. So, if you see this statistic, you might wonder what is the purpose of this post? This post is to make you aware that if you were ever to get involved in the car accident, here are some steps to take to ensure safety of you, family, or friends.
First, if you been involved in accident make sure everyone
is safe. Pull on the side of road to get out of the way of other traffic. Some law
enforcement agency might not want you to do this. I have found in my experience
this helps make others safe and helps traffic buildup.
The next step is to make a phone call to 911. This can
depend largely on the severity of the accident. Well, I would say always called
911.
Also, immediately take pictures. No matter who you think is
at fault. Whether you are at fault or the other person is at fault take
pictures! This will help you in the long run, especially when it comes to remembering
specific details of the accident. Or even just trying to find out what happened
to your valuables in the car accident.
Another step is exchange insurance information with the
other driver. [In some cases, if you think the car insurance is suspect, call
their insurance company at the scene of the accident. There
are a lot of people who are driving without care insurance.] Most people who have accident, especially if it's
their fault, have a tendency to go ahead and share auto insurance information
anyway. So, don't think that you're being rude or overly aggressive by asking
this ask for this information.
Next step seek medical attention. Regardless of if you're at
fault or not, seek medical attention. There is no need for you trying to suck
it up or try to be tough. Oftentimes people will see or feel pain 24 to 72
hours after the accident. I know it's weird but here's the thing your body is
not meant to be in a car accident.
Next thing I would say make sure to find an attorney. I'm
not just saying this because I am an attorney. I tell a lot of my clients that
the insurance company is in business for themselves and their stakeholders.
Even though you paid a premium and you probably never had a car accident, the
car insurance purpose is to not pay that policy out. So, an attorney typically
would help.
Takeaways:
If you have a car accident, make sure everyone is safe, call
911, take pictures, exchange each other’s auto insurance information, seek
medical attention, and consult a car accident lawyer.
